It doesn’t matter where in the world we are. We all have to use different means of transport in order to get to the places we want. Do you know how many means of transport exist? You are probably thinking of the most well known ones like automobiles, buses, air planes, motorcycles, trains, subways and others. But if you live in Europe, and especially the United Kingdom, you are probably very familiar with passenger ferries.
If you have never heard of these, you are definitely missing out. Passenger ferries are a great means of transport between ferry ports in different cities and countries. As you may have already noticed, we are talking about a type of sea transport. A lot of people confuse them with cruises because often times ferries will travel long distances, but they are big boats that do not fall into the cruise category (unless we are talking about a cruise-ferry.) Ferries can travel across long and short distances through the waters, and most times they will cost cheaper than travelling using other means; obviously it will depend on the country and distance you are planning to travel through. You are probably hesitant whether or not ferries are convenient for your needs, but of course you can always analyze the pros and cons of them.
To begin with, while you wait for the ferry you might like to know what do the port facilities offer you. Most of them will have ATMs available for your use, so in case of an emergency you are guaranteed that you will be able to access your accounts and get some extra money. If you are travelling with your laptop or your smartphone, you will totally love the fact that you will be able to access the Internet and check your e-mails or the news while you are waiting. Now, if you are a mother and are travelling with your baby, you might find very appealing the fact that some ports have changing rooms in case of emergencies, as well as facilities for breastfeeding mothers. Another good option is that you can find restaurants, cafés and bars at the ports, so if you get hungry or thirsty you do not have to leave the port and look for another place. You can even find some shops and boutiques, so if you were in a hurry and forgot to bring something you will be able to buy it at one of these stores!
But, why should we choose passenger ferries over other means of transport? To begin with, it is cheaper than other means. One con for busy people is the fact that it is slower, but if you have the time for a slow but relaxing and beautiful trip, the ferry is right for you. If you are using the ferry for a quick trip, it will probably not have many facilities, but if it is a longer trip, then you will be able to find different amenities such as cafes and others.
